Something To Think About

You Are What You Smoke: Drug dealers looking for ways to increase their distribution found out the hard way that it isn’t always good to advertise. Two drug dealers put their heads together (and what was left of their brains) and came up with a unique advertising program. What better way to attract customers than to offer a discount coupon? They designed their ad, printed it and then distributed it throughout the neighborhood. They kicked back and waited for business to roll in. Soon after it did. Their customers were police officers. It seems that these two enterprising young men who set out to increase sales made it easy for the police by putting their names, address, and phone number on the coupon. I think that the drugs went to their brains.

Another Sue Happy Citizen: In our sue happy society, somebody came up with another brilliant “get rich” lawsuit. His target? Believe it or not, was the milk industry. It seems that he tried to sue the milk industry for not placing warning labels (like cigarette packs have) warning people of the potential dangers that drinking milk can cause. He asked for restitution on the grounds that his failing health was caused by drinking milk. He claimed that there should be a warning label on all milk containers advising customers to the dangers of the fat content and cholesterol. What industry is next?

He’ll Do Anything To Get You There: A few years ago on our way to Nova Scotia, we were driving on one of New York’s many toll roads. Traffic was moving at a snail’s pace. As I was sitting there watching the other drivers reaction to the traffic flow, I spotted an old beat up taxi. As we got closer, I could see that about the only thing holding the taxi together (are you ready for this?) was duct tape. I could see that the driver was a little old man that must have been at least 70. As we pulled up beside him, I had to laugh. The name of his company was Reliable Taxi. Hopefully, he could still get you to your destination in one piece without using duct tape on you.

Unusual State Laws

Recently I was given a paper listing some unusual laws in a few states. I could not verify if they were still in the books. I thought that they were interesting. How many of these laws have you violated?

In Tennessee it is unlawful to:

1. Drive while asleep.

2. Use a lasso to catch a fish.

3. Shoot game other than whales from a moving automobile

4. In Memphis, it is illegal for a woman to drive a car unless there is a man either running or walking in front of it waving a red flag to warn approaching motorists and pedestrians.

5. In Memphis, it is illegal for frogs to croak after 11:00pm.

6. In Lenoir City, when you pull up to a stop sign, you must fire a gun out the window to warn horse carriages that you are coming.

In Alabama it is unlawful:

1. To put salt on a railroad track, which may be punishable by death.

2. For a driver to be blindfolded while operating a vehicle.

In Florida it is unlawfull:

1. To sing in public while wearing a bathing suit.

2. For an unmarried woman to go parachuting on Sunday or risk arrest, fine and/or jail.

Only A Child Would Think Of Doing This!

Recently a friend (Steve) was telling me about his nephew. He told me when he used to visit his young nephew, he would play a game with him. In one hand he held a nickel and in the other hand he held a dime. He would hold his hands out so his nephew could see the coins. He would ask his nephew which coin he wanted and he always chose the nickel. Steve would rationalize that he would take it because it was bigger. Steve was puzzled because as his nephew got older, he continued to take the nickel instead of the dime. He was sure that his nephew knew that the dime was worth more even though it was smaller. Finally after playing the game one more time with his nephew, Steve asked the boy why he always took the nickel instead of the dime. He asked him if he knew that the dime was worth more than the nickel. The boy replied, ”Of course I do.” So Steve said, “If you know that, then why do you continue to take the nickel?” The boy smiled and said, “If I started taking the dime instead of the nickel, you might stop playing the game with me.” Who was playing who?

Thoughts For The Day

Wear a smile. Let everybody wonder what you are up to.”

“God doesn’t put obstacles in your path to slow you down, but to make you stronger.”

“Most people complain about the things that they don’t have. Be unique. Be thankful for the things that you do have.”

“I’d rather wake up on a cold and cloudy morning than not wake up on a warm and sunny day.”

Behind The Wheel

A young man stopped by the courthouse to pay a speeding ticket that he had received. He was very upset about the high cost of the fine that he paid. As he received his receipt for the fine, he asked the clerk, “What am I supposed to do with this?” Without any hesitation she advised him, “Keep it. When you get four of them, you can exchange your car for a bicycle.”

A cop pulls a lady over and asked to see her license. Angrily she replies, ‘I wish that you guys would make up your mind. Last week you took my license and today you want me to show them to you!”
